THE REAL REASON.

"Herbert," said a perplexed mother to her five-year-old boy, "why is it that you're not a better boy?" "Well," said the little fellow, soberly, looking up into her face with his honest blue eyes, "I suppose the real reason is that I don't want to be." We think the child gave the real reason why all of us, big people as well as little people, are not better than we are—because we do not really want to be better; but, unfortunately, most people do not like to own it, as the little boy did.—Selected.
