PRESENT TRUTH.

ACROSTIC.

Present truth sheds a light on our pathway, Respecting the gifts and commandments of God; Error is known 'neath the clear light of noonday, Sin is reproved and the saints feel the rod. Every one must be tried by this touchstone— Nothing but holiness can stand the test, This truth will search out the seat of corruption, Tear open wounds—but its probing is blest. Rod of the Lord, I will fly when I feel thee, Unto those arms that were forced to chastise; Thou art an angel of mercy to teach me How to return, and at last win the prize.
If to the uplifted hand I draw nearer, Lighter and lighter the strokes that I feel, And God's requirements seem manifold dearer, When I can see how he wounded to heal.
