The Breakdown of Orthodox Theology
There is no denying that the religious opinions of mankind are becoming rapidly modified. Orthodoxy is breaking up like ice in spring-time. And as the breaking up of winter often swells brooks and rivers to overflowing, so the breaking up of the long winter of theological darkness and superstitious frost must swell the streams of life and thought immoderately, sweeping away old institutions with sectarian icebergs. The old orthodox season has run its course and is passing away. The present theology has done its work, and become effete and inadequate to satisfy the growing needs of the time. Hence men are looking elsewhere for support.—N. Y. Dispatch.
