DRUNKENNESS IN THE PULPIT.

A novel case has been decided in England in favor of a clergyman of the Established Church, which has excited some comment in the public journals. In the Court of Arches, a clergyman pleaded guilty of gross acts of intoxication and the use of profane and indecent language. It even appeared that on one occasion he took with him to church, when about to officiate therein, a bottle of spirits, of which he drank a considerable portion, so as to render him unfit to decently perform the service. Yet, notwithstanding he had already been suspended for a similar offense, and reinstated in his curacy, the Court refused to deprive him of his office.
