The Spirit of Christian Charity

It is recorded of Tyndale that having once escaped the cruel hands of his enemies, and entertaining nothing but the tenderest charity towards them, he said to them: "Take away my goods, take away my good name, yet so long as Christ dwelleth in my heart, so long I shall love you not a whit the less." This is the spirit we like to see; and all in whose hearts Christ dwells will not be slow to show it forth. That selfish sensitiveness in regard to our own rights, our own honor, and our own property, which so often reigns in unsanctified hearts, melts away before the spirit of genuine christianity.
