Retrenchment.

SINCE the time of our arrival in Oakland there has been a cutting down of wages in the office of the SIGNS, as far as seemed possible, considering the number employed who have no special interest in our cause. There have been heavy outlays in this establishment during the past year, and debts of considerable sums are yet standing against it. We desire to take such steps, and practice such economy, that all will have confidence in the management of this important publishing house. The foundry has lately received an order for type, which is assurance that it will soon be on a paying footing.
