IS IT RIGHT?

To every uttered word or thought, What e'er thou mayest indite, Apply this golden, beauteous test, The question—"Is it right?"
When thoughts arise and tempt us on, Alluring us away— Pause! ask the conscience "Is it right?" And be not led astray.
When angry passions rise within, Reflect! and ask "If right?" And thou shalt prove the conquerer, And put the foe to flight!
The tempter meets us every where, Offering us delight; Beware, seductive influence! Ask conscience, "Is it right?"
Two paths there are before us all, The right way, and the wrong— Look well! and guard thy every step; Reflection makes us strong! —B. C. Leech.
