David Blesses Solomon the New Kingby emmanuel_higgins

1 Chronicles 23:1

So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

When David was old and full of days, he made his son Solomon king over Israel. After placing Solomon on the throne, he gave particular attention to perfecting the organization of all branches of service. That organization included the priests and the Levites and the civil officers and the army. It was carried out according to his carefully studied plan of apportioning special duties to the men best fitted for them.

For that work he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. He numbered the Levites from thirty years old and upward by polls, totaling thirty-eight thousand. He divided them by fixed duty, with twenty-four thousand to set forward the work of the house of the Lord. Six thousand were appointed as officers and judges, four thousand as porters, and four thousand to praise the Lord with instruments.
