1 Chronicles 7:1

Now the sons of Issachar were, Tola, and Puah, Jashub, and Shimron, four.

The sons of Issachar named here stand in the lists and genealogies of the various tribes given in the first nine chapters of Chronicles. The section covering 1 Chronicles 5-7 consists of records of events, lists of names, and similar material with occasional matters of special interest. As part of those genealogies, this record belongs to those that established hereditary descent for assigning land and maintaining temple service after the exile.

The careful keeping of such family records reflects God's care for each person, whose life is faithfully recorded in heaven. Long lists of names like this are inspired Scripture even when they are not understood or seen as valuable. They are inspired even when they are not read in family worship or private devotion.

Not all of the Bible is equally interesting and valuable to all persons and under all circumstances. It provides plain nourishment for the illiterate and deep things to interest scholars. God recorded the origin and distribution of races for those who would study ethnology, making the Bible for all classes and not for one class only. He scattered spiritual truth along the way so that many seeking only human knowledge find what is divine.
