Daniel 10:1
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.
In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a true revelation was given to Daniel, whose other name was Belteshazzar. The thing revealed concerned events to come whose appointed fulfillment lay far in the future. That appointed time was then long, a long time still off. Daniel understood the thing revealed and had understanding of the vision. Yet he did not understand everything revealed to him, for some of the prophetic message was sealed until the time of the end.
The verse belongs to an account of God communicating with Daniel through a vision and ministering angels. In it Daniel responded with earnest prayer, fasting, mourning, humbling himself, humility, confession, tears, and seeking understanding. He was told his prayer was heard from the first day he sought understanding and humbled himself before God, and his fasting and prayer were not in vain. The account that follows shows a heavenly conflict affecting earthly affairs. Daniel's earnest prayer moved Gabriel to come, while satanic forces influenced the king of Persia to hinder the answer, and Michael came to help Gabriel. God heard Daniel's prayers, came to his deliverance, and made the future known to him.
The verse records light received direct from God given especially for the last days. The vision seen by the Hiddekel, one of the great rivers of Shinar, is now in process of fulfillment, and all its foretold events will soon come to pass. In contrast to the long appointed time then, only a short time now remains for God's witnesses to finish preparing the way of the Lord. They must arise and shine, reveal God as good and merciful and hating oppression, and not be intimidated by threatenings or overcome by despondency. God will likewise hear repentant and obedient servants who earnestly seek the Holy Spirit by intercession and make known to them the things shortly to take place.
