Ezekiel 41:1
Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle. Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle.
Ezekiel 41:1 records one stage in the measuring of God's house, when a man whose appearance was like brass stood in the gate with a measuring reed in his hand and measured the whole building. The measuring at that stage took in the posts of the temple, six cubits broad on the one side and six cubits broad on the other side. It also took in all the little chambers and doorways and arches and pillars, and the great gate looking toward the east, with every least item recorded according to the measurement by the reed.
True measure is everything, and it is the very law of God. He puts that law into the least of human acts and dealings, so that by learning it and living it people are elevated and ennobled and sanctified. That sanctification comes through faithfulness in the least, through loving God supremely and one's neighbor as oneself, which is the whole duty of man.
Spiritually the measuring is God's measuring of the person. A righteous life of honest, faithful dealing builds up the whole righteous stature and structure. In this way character is prepared after the divine model for the glory to be revealed.
After the measuring was finished the glory of God came into the house. The house was then to be shown to the house of Israel, that they might be ashamed of their iniquities and measure the pattern. For this is the law of the house, that upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy.
