Isaiah 28:1
Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine! Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
The fading flower set upon rich, fertile valleys pictures a magnificence that is attractive for a time but has no power to endure. The woe is directed against the proud drunkards of Ephraim, declaring that their pride and intoxication will come to an end when their glorious beauty withers and falls. The same warning reaches to modern cities, having been joined to the destruction of San Francisco and to further destructions to be expected in various places.
