Isaiah 4:1
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
Isaiah 4:1 expressly forbids unnecessary and prideful articles of dress such as wrought collars, undersleeves, stomachers and the like. It requires self-denial of things that are not actually needed, refusing indulgence in display. What would have been spent to gratify pride is to be laid by in store instead of being consumed on self. The sum thus saved is to defray expenses and to supply the clothing and wants of ministers' families, when ministers sacrifice their homes and family society and travel for weeks and months to labor for souls.
