Isaiah 50:1
Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother’s divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
The question of the bill of divorcement and the creditors belongs to the reproof the Lord has given to His people in Isaiah 50-58, and it is to be studied by leaders in His cause and by those connected with His institutions. In it the Lord examines neglected duties in order to warn the people what truth is.
The chapter is to be read together with Isaiah 35. It holds promising words of inspiration given for the encouragement of the churches, to be claimed in times of emergency, especially when there is disappointment over the spiritual lack seen in churches and in individuals.
Those who have had great light are called by it to receive that light with faith and to continue seeking to know the Lord. They are to accept all of His word rather than only what they choose, to make thorough consecration to God, and to put away all complaining and every evil practice. When that response is given, many souls now unwarned will hear the reasons for faith, and the Lord will reveal His power in the conviction and conversion of souls.
