Jeremiah Comforts Baruch at His Tableby emmanuel_higgins

Jeremiah 45:1

The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,

The word was spoken by Jeremiah to Baruch the son of Neriah after Baruch had written Jeremiah's words in a book at Jeremiah's dictation, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. That written roll became the basis from which the book of Jeremiah grew, illustrating how the prophets kept written records of predictions and collected some into larger volumes for permanent use. The chapter's place in Jeremiah does not follow chronological order, but its events can be arranged by the dates and other information given in Jeremiah.

Chronologically it belongs to the account of events during Jehoiakim's reign concerning the writing down of Jeremiah's prophecies, placed after Jeremiah 20 and before Jeremiah 24, even though material from Zedekiah's reign appears before material from Jehoiakim's reign. In the fuller chronological arrangement it belongs after chapters 20, 22, 23, 25, 26, 35, and 36, and before chapter 24. In the book's present order it stands among the closing chapters, which cover Jeremiah's personal experiences and going into Egypt as well as prophecies concerning several nations and Babylon.

That section of Jeremiah is described as history from the two years before Jerusalem's fall. Together with the events in chapter 43, the account of Jeremiah and Baruch serves as an example of the course and outcome of people who resist God's testimony.
