Jeremiah 48:1

Against Moab thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled: Kiriathaim is confounded and taken: Misgab is confounded and dismayed.

Jeremiah 48:1 belongs to the prophecy against Moab, which stands within Jeremiah's prophecies against the nations and kingdoms surrounding Israel. It pronounces doom and judgment upon Moab as one of those kingdoms. It declares Nebo spoiled, and Kiriathaim and Misgab captured and brought to confusion, shame, and alarm.

It belongs to Jeremiah's prophecies against powers destined to fall before Nebuchadnezzar. Within this group of prophecies against the surrounding nations, Babylon receives particular emphasis and also serves as a type of mystical Babylon.
