Jonah Falls Into the Sea Before the Great FishBible World
2:1Jonah 2:1
Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly,
While shut inside the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed to the Lord his God. His prayer opened by recalling that he had cried out in his affliction and that God had heard him. It was prayed in fearful despair from within the fish, and the trials he had undergone revived his confidence in God's power to save.
Those trials also renewed his determination to obey, even at personal sacrifice. The severe affliction was used by God to teach Jonah obedience and to enable him to fulfill God's purpose for Nineveh.
