Micah 1:1

The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Micah was a native of Moresheth, a small town on the maritime plain about twenty miles southwest of Jerusalem. His prophetic ministry took place in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. He lived and prophesied between 745 and 700 B.C., with his life reaching toward the time of Manasseh. His ministry is placed around 750 BC. He was a contemporary of Isaiah, as his younger contemporary.

He was a prophet to both Israel and Judah, since what he saw concerned both Samaria and Jerusalem. He keenly saw and felt the social wrongs of his age and sympathized deeply with the common people, having been called in a time of great social evils. He was called to deliver a message of judgment, wrath, and warning that exposed Israel's sin-stricken condition.

He prophesied of Christ's coming, including his birth in Bethlehem. He offered mercy, forgiveness, and promised blessings to the repentant sinner if God's people would return to him.
