Nehemiah 3:1
Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel. Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they builded the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even unto the tower of Meah they sanctified it, unto the tower of Hananeel.
The priests were among the first to join in the rebuilding work, taking up the section beginning with the sheep gate. The rebuilding of the gates and defenses was united work to be carried forward together, not by isolated effort. Their prompt cooperation helped the work to succeed.
Those in positions of influence and responsibility, especially church leaders, should be foremost in God's work. Their zeal encourages many others to act. The restoration of Zion's ruined places, gates, and walls pictures parents and ministers restoring religious life in the household and strengthening its protection for the people.
