Numbers 33:1
These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron. These are the journeys of the children of Israel, which went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron.
These are the journeys of the children of Israel as they went forth out of the land of Egypt with their armies under the hand of Moses and Aaron, and the verse stands as the introduction to the record of that journey from Egypt toward Canaan. Its opening section, covering the departure from Egypt through the first stages of travel, belongs together with the crossing of the Red Sea described in Exodus. The route set down in that record passes through the region of Mount Sinai on the way from Egypt toward Canaan.
Between Hazeroth and Kadesh-barnea the itinerary names eighteen encampments. Of most of those stops little is recorded of what took place there, and of many nothing remains but the names themselves. With Numbers 31 to 33 it teaches that no secret sin can be hidden from God.
