Numbers 7:1

And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them;

The verse marks the completion and consecration of the tabernacle, when it had been set up and anointed and sanctified, and the altar and all its vessels likewise anointed and sanctified, before the princes brought their offerings for sanctuary service. The long account of the princes' offerings that follows is an omitted section of Numbers. The phrase for being fully set up describes the tabernacle and its furnishings as completed, showing that the Hebrew word translated consume in Daniel 11:16 can mean finish or complete.

The ministry of the earthly tabernacle began only after the tabernacle, the altar, and the vessels had been set up, anointed, and sanctified, for according to the type anointing had to precede priestly service. That anointing before Levitical ministry covered the entire tabernacle, including the most holy place and the holy place, with the altar and all the sacred vessels. After this anointing, the priests began ministering in the first apartment. Anointing the entire sanctuary did not mean ministry began in the most holy place.

This dedication order serves as the pattern for the beginning of Christ's ministry in the true, heavenly sanctuary. The anointing of the heavenly tabernacle was the first act in the great High Priest's ministry, presented to Daniel before the close of the seventy weeks. Therefore Christ could not have ministered in the heavenly sanctuary before it was anointed.
