King David Praising God Above the CityBible World

Psalms 145:1

I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

The verse is a personal pledge to lift up God as King and to bless His name for ever and ever. That pledge makes praise to the Lord and blessing of His name a continual duty. The ground for it is that His mercies and goodness are so great that people need to awaken to recognize them. Failure to render such praise is a fault that must be corrected.

Thanksgiving for mercies received is to be spoken, not left silent. It is to be warm and abundant. It is to be as frequent and earnest as prayer.
