Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.
It is a cry to God in prayer asking Him to give ear to spoken words and to consider meditation. It addresses Him as King and God, and it is prayed to Him alone. It is offered in the morning by directing prayer to Him and looking up in expectation that He will hear.
It stands with the truth that He has no pleasure in wickedness, that evil shall not dwell with Him, that the foolish shall not stand in His sight, that He hates all workers of iniquity, that He destroys liars, and that He abhors the bloody and deceitful man. With it the praying one comes into His house in the multitude of His mercy and worships toward His holy temple in fear, asking to be led in His righteousness because of enemies, with the way made straight before him.
It will be the experience of the sons and daughters of God who receive and believe in Christ as Redeemer, whom the Lord as the God of righteousness hears when they call and blesses as righteous, surrounding them with favor as with a shield. It is a comforting assurance for the sick and the dying and for all in distress, given for encouragement and consolation to be relied upon.
