A Priest Blesses Farmers Beside a Wheat Fieldby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 67:1

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.

The verse is a prayer asking God to be merciful to His people, to bless them, and to cause His face to shine upon them in favor and presence. His shining face is His light, and receiving that light through the Holy Spirit enables people to learn in Christ's school. The prayer is joined to the purpose that God's way may become known throughout the earth and His saving health and saving power among all nations.

It is a prayer for every Christian, not ministers only, to send up to heaven. It is to go forth from sincere lips while doing a great work with eternity in view and giving every sanctified power to the work. It is to be prayed with practical faith by those carrying a burden for the unsaved, asking for the power of Christ, the inspiration of His Spirit, and a desire to save the perishing, so that the sin-sick receive the gospel remedy, the lost sheep are brought back to the fold, and the thousands in ignorance are warned.

It is to be offered as approved workers who do not trust church membership to save them but put away indolence and slothfulness and labor faithfully. It is offered as consecrated human agents cooperate with divine agencies to win souls to the truth with no time to lose. The church's prosperity is sought for this missionary purpose. Seeking this blessing means going into the world as an earnest medical missionary for the Lord, letting the knowledge of Jesus shine to every people.
