Levite Blows the Shofar at the New Moonby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 81:1

Sing aloud unto God our strength: make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.

God is named as the strength of His people and as the God of Jacob, and His people are called to praise Him aloud with joyful sound. That joyful praise is to be expressed in singing, and together with the next verse the call includes musical instruments and accompaniment as a fitting way to offer it. This praise belongs with Israel's appointed worship, given under a statute and a law from God. In that setting it affirms that God's law is still binding and is to guide parents in teaching their children obedience.

The psalm explains Israel's scattering as the result of their forgetting God. Its warning about forgetting God applies to the churches in the land today, which are forgetting Him in the same way. Written for admonition for those upon whom the ends of the world have come, it is to be studied in the schools as timely nourishment, meat in due season, for the youth.
