David Sings and Plays His Lyre at Jerusalem Gateby emmanuel_higgins

Psalms 9:1

I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Praise to the Lord is to come from the whole heart, and its form is to make known, to tell forth and declare, all His marvelous works. That same wholehearted praise includes declaring all of those works without reserve. With it are joined gladness and rejoicing and singing praise to His name as the Most High, the Most High being named in joyful song.

Such praise and thanksgiving honor God, for they are an act of worship and a sign of respect for His power. Thanksgiving of this kind is the fruit of willing obedience. To speak of God's power in this praise is to express appreciation for His constant love and gratitude for His mercies and favors. That speaking awakens the soul to a sense of His glory.

His marvelous works include the works of creation, which display His power and wisdom. Contemplating nature lifts the mind to its Creator and gives cause to magnify and praise Him, leading directly to praise. These words will be literally fulfilled in the troublous times just before the end, when the church is to draw near to God by repentance and putting away sin instead of becoming worldly.
