A-näs'tro-phe, n.

n. [Gr. ἀναστροφή, a turning back, from ἀναστρέφειν, to turn up or back, from ἀνά, up, back, and στρέφειν, to turn.] (Rhet. & Gram.) An inversion of the natural order of words; as, echoed the hills, for the hills echoed.
