Rus'siȧ Lĕath'er

(rŭsh'ȧ, or ru'shȧ, lĕth'er). A soft kind of leather, made in Russia, and having a peculiar odor from being impregnated with an oil obtained from birch bark. It is much used in book-binding, on account of its not being subject to mold, and being proof against insects, this quality being due to the effect of the empyreumatic oil used in dressing it.
