n. [Pol. ulan, hulan, from Turk. oglan, a youth, lad.]

  1. A certain description of militia among the modern Tartars.
  2. One of a kind of light cavalry of Tartaric origin, and first introduced into European armies in Poland. They were armed with lances, to which pistols and sabers are added.
