(zĭf'-ĭ-as), n. [Lat., Gr. ξιφίας, from ξιφός, a sword.] 1. (Ichth.) A genus of fishes, to which the Xiphias gladius, or common sword-fish, belongs. 2. (Astron.) (a.) A constellation in the southern hemisphere. (b.) A comet-shaped like a sword.
