(zīf'oid) (Synop., § 130), a. [Fr. xiphoïde, Gr. ξιφοειδής, sword-shaped, from ξίφος, a sword, and εἶδος, form, shape.] (Anat.) Resembling a sword; ensiform.

Xiphoid or ensiform cartilage (Anat.), a small, pointed cartilage placed at the bottom of the breast-bone.
