Why Christ Came Despite the Law's Existence
If God's law was perfect, why was Christ's death necessary?
Why did Christ come to the world when there was a law
AdventAI
Christ came to this world because the moral law is immutable and could not be changed or abolished to meet man in his fallen condition, making a divine substitute necessary to satisfy the claims of justice and provide a way of recovery. Since sin is the transgression of the law, and man was under its condemnation without the power to save himself, Jesus clothed His divinity with humanity to pay the debt of the servant and restore the repenting soul to favor with God.
The Immutability of the Law
The Foundation of God's Government: The law of God is the transcript of His character and the foundation of His throne; as such, it is as unchangeable as Jehovah Himself.
Why Death was Necessary: Had it been possible for God to change or set aside even one precept of His law, Christ need not have suffered and died.
Vindication of Truth: The death of Christ on Calvary's cross forever settled the question of the validity and eternal nature of the law, proving it to be holy, just, and true before the entire universe.
Restoring the Power to Obey
Strength for the Weak: While the law can convict of sin, it has no power to pardon or provide strength for obedience; therefore, Christ came to bring man divine aid to overcome natural inclinations.
Living the Law: Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience in human flesh to show that God’s requirements are not arbitrary and can be kept through divine grace John 1:17.
Imparted Righteousness: By His death, He became the Mediator, substituting His pure righteousness for our "filthy rags" of sin, so that we might be restored to loyalty to the Most High Isaiah 64:6.
Revealing the Father's Character
Counteracting Satan’s Falsehoods: Christ came to dispel the delusions brought by Satan, who claimed that God's law was a cold, rigid code of bondage.
A Living Epistle: In His life of tenderness, mercy, and compassion, Jesus revealed the true character of the Unseen Father, demonstrating that the fulfillment of the law is supreme love to God and neighbor.
The Gospel Plan: The plan of salvation was devised to elevate humanity, restoring the moral image of God in man and providing a "blood-bought pardon" for every soul who accepts it.
Biblical Testimony
The Scriptures clearly outline that the Lord is well pleased to magnify the law and make it honorable Isaiah 42:21. Christ Himself declared, "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill" Matthew 5:17. He came so that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us through the Spirit Romans 8:3-4. Through this plan, God remains just while becoming the justifier of those who believe in Jesus Romans 3:26. 🌟
