The Power of Promptness: Why Delay Is Dangerous
Why could a few minutes of delay determine a victory or defeat?
EGW writings about sometimes we need to act quickly. Delay can have consequences
AdventAI
Acting promptly is a divine requirement because the most significant victories and the most fearful defeats often turn on the matter of a few minutes. When God’s providence opens the way, His servants must be "minute men," ready to move instantaneously to prevent Satan from gaining an advantage through our hesitation.
The Danger of Delay and Hesitation
Delay, doubt, and indecision frequently give the enemy every possible advantage in his work to defeat the cause of God. Those who are divided or unsettled, waiting until they are sure they will lose nothing before they act, demonstrate a character that God cannot use.
Lost Opportunities: Many times, while workers are being too precise or calculating in their preparations, the opportunity to do a good work passes by unimproved.
Satanic Advantage: Satan perseveringly works to keep minds engrossed in worldly inventions and commercial enterprises, using our delays to defeat the progress of truth.
Spiritual Blindness: Trifling with salvation through procrastination dims the spiritual eyesight until one cannot discern between light and darkness.
Impact on Others: Lot’s lingering spirit in Sodom resulted in the loss of his wife; had he hastened as the Lord desired, she would not have become a pillar of salt.
The Call for Promptness in Leadership and Labor
The cause of God demands leaders who can see quickly and act with power at the right time. We must not wait to measure every difficulty or balance every perplexity, or we will accomplish very little.
City Work: The message must be carried to the cities quickly, as long delays have already made reaching all classes more difficult.
Gospel Urgency: We do not have a "temporal millennium" to work out slow, human plans; the work must move forward step by step without delay.
Decisive Action: In the final test coming upon the earth, prompt decisions will be made by those who range themselves under the banner of Prince Emmanuel.
Personal Diligence: Even in daily duties like preparing meals or washing dishes, we are to overcome slow, fussy, or lingering habits through the exercise of the will.
Balancing Speed with Wisdom
While prompt action is essential, it must be guided by the word of truth and not by impulsive or ignorant moves.
Judgment and Prayer: We are to use the judgment God has given us, moving in an expeditious manner that is not without careful thought and prayerful consideration.
Divine Guidance: True promptness comes from looking unto Jesus and following His leadings rather than the suppositions of men.
Avoiding Haste: We must avoid moves that are so hasty they are ill-advised, as these can betray the cause of God into the enemy’s power.
Scriptural Encouragement for Action
The Lord promises to provide the necessary strength and guidance for those who move forward in faith.
Divine Strength: The Lord is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think Ephesians 3:20.
Separation for Service: We are commanded to come out from the world and be separate, touching no unclean thing 2 Corinthians 6:17.
Watchfulness: We must stay in a waiting, watching position so that we may open to the Master immediately when He knocks Luke 12:35-36.
Faithful Endurance: While we wait on the Lord for His timing, we must be of good courage and let Him strengthen our hearts Psalms 27:14.
The time is very near when man will reach the limits of God’s mercy, and it is a critical time for those currently in the "valley of decision". We must redeem the time because the days are evil and the night is coming when no man can work.
