Dare Not Walk Alone: A Journey of Faith and Dependence

Will you trust in the arm of flesh, or cast your soul on Jesus?

AdventAI

I cannot, dare not, walk alone; The tempest rages in the sky, A thousand snares beset my feet, A thousand foes are lurking nigh. Still Thou the raging of the sea, O Master! let me walk with Thee. Sermon entitled Dare not walk alone

I would be honored to help you craft a sermon and a detailed outline based on those powerful, prayerful lyrics. It is a beautiful theme, and I am ready to begin whenever you are!

🛡️ Dare Not Walk Alone

👦 The Little Lamb and the Shepherd’s Hand

A long time ago, a little lamb lived in a beautiful green valley. One day, the lamb saw some tasty-looking grass on a high, rocky hill and decided to climb up all by himself Psalms 104:18. He thought he was very strong and didn't need the shepherd to watch him. But as the sun went down, the sky grew dark and a big storm began to howl. The little lamb was trapped on a slippery ledge with sharp thorns and hungry wolves nearby. He realized he could not find his way home alone and was very afraid. Suddenly, he heard the shepherd’s voice calling his name. The shepherd reached down his strong arm and lifted the lamb out of the danger. From that day on, the lamb learned that his only safety was staying so close to the shepherd that he could feel the shepherd’s hand on his shoulder.

🌊 The Raging Tempest of Self-Dependence

We live in a world where the tempest rages in the sky and spiritual darkness covers the earth. Many try to navigate this life relying on their own wisdom and strength, but this self-dependence is a snare of the adversary. When King Solomon relied on God, he was the wisest man alive, but the moment he relied on himself, he fell prey to temptation. Our only security against falling into the depths of sin is a constant distrust of self and a total dependence on Christ 1 Corinthians 10:12. Like a branch that cannot live without the sap of the vine, we have no spiritual life apart from Jesus. When we cease to depend upon men and make God our efficiency, then we shall have true confidence and strength.

  • Self-sufficiency leads to blunders: If we pass on in self-confidence, we will be left to make great mistakes.

  • The danger of riches: Worldly wealth often leads men to forget their dependence on God, developing the attributes of Satan rather than the character of Christ Deuteronomy 8:17.

  • The unstable heart: Those who trust in their own strength are unstable as water and cannot resist the proposals of the enemy.

⚔️ A Thousand Snares and Lurking Foes

The path of the Christian is beset with a thousand snares and lurking foes. We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, and the rulers of the darkness of this world Ephesians 6:12. Satan is not passive; his army is on the ground today, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8. He interposes himself between the soul and the Saviour to prevent us from gaining spiritual strength. Without divine help, we cannot save ourselves from the tempter's power. We must put on the whole armor of God—the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit Ephesians 6:11-17.

  • Spasmodic Religion: Many have a religion that is uncertain and feeble because they walk in the light of others rather than having a living experience with Christ.

  • Corrupted Purity: Worldly influences and selfish indulgence harden the heart and weaken the moral faculties.

  • The Mystery of Iniquity: There is a secret undercurrent working to suppress God's truth and enslave the souls of men through human decrees.

🤝 Walking with the Master

To walk with God is to have a personal, daily connection with the living Saviour. Like Enoch, we must educate our minds to devotion, thinking on things that are pure and holy even while surrounded by corruption. Walking with God produces a "sunny religion" and a cheerful heart, for those who follow Christ closely are never gloomy or desponding. This union with Christ is one of utter dependence, requiring us to submit our will to His and detach ourselves from cherished idols. As we walk with Him, our character is fashioned after the divine Pattern, and we receive the mold of a perfect character.

  • Constant Prayer: Prayer is the source of power and the secret of walking with God in our daily labor.

  • Obedience by Faith: We must purpose in our hearts to obey God at any cost, for the just shall live by faith Habakkuk 2:4.

  • The Bread of Life: To walk with Him, we must feed upon His word, which is spirit and life.

🏔️ The Everlasting Arms

In the midst of the most trying and aggravating circumstances, the child of God can find refuge in the everlasting arms. When trials crush us and obstacles seem surmountable, faith looks beyond the difficulties and lays hold of Omnipotence. The Lord does not give us strength for tomorrow's battles today, but He provides exactly what we need for the present emergency Matthew 6:34. When we feel our own weakness most acutely, we are drawn to look higher for strength from above. It is in our weakness that His strength is made perfect, and the everlasting arms are placed around us to deliver us from the wall of fire.

  • A Present Help: Christ becomes a present help in time of need to all who seek Him through silent, fervent prayer.

  • Victory is Certain: Trustful dependence on Jesus makes victory not only possible, but certain 1 John 5:4.

  • The Shield of Providence: Those who stand under the broad shield of Omnipotence will never be overtaken by the enemy.

📢 The Final Appeal: What Are You Going to Do?

The day of God’s vengeance is just upon us, and the crisis is fast approaching. I lift my warning voice and beseech you to diligently search your own hearts to see if you have a living faith. Will you continue to trust in the arm of flesh, or will you cast your helpless soul on Jesus? You cannot serve both self and Christ; one must be crucified so the other may live. Decisions made today decide your eternal destiny. Do not wait for a more convenient season or until every uncertainty disappears.

Choose this day whom you will serve Deuteronomy 30:19. Will you lay your hand in the hand of the Master and say, "I dare not walk alone"? Will you forsake your cherished idols and the love of the world to be washed and made white in the blood of the Lamb? The Savior is knocking at the door of your heart; open it and let Him in Revelation 3:20. Come to the light, cast off the works of darkness, and put on the whole armor of righteousness. What is your decision? What are you going to do? Turn to Christ now, for He is able to keep you from falling and present you faultless before His glory with exceeding joy Jude 1:24-25.
