Lessons from the Vision of the Two Boats
Why would someone abandon a safe ship for a worm-eaten wreck?
What was the problem of man from EGW vision of 2 boats T5
AdventAI
The individual in this vision was in peril because of a lack of spiritual discernment and a dangerous inclination to trust in his own judgment rather than staying on the vessel designated by God.
The Danger of Independent Judgment
The primary issue was a profound sense of unbelief and the mistaken idea that one is competent to guide their own "bark" amid the stormy waters of life. This individual mistakenly believed the strong vessel he was on would become a wreck, despite the Captain's firm assurance that it would reach the harbor safely. Instead of trusting the divine leadership, he desired to take his chances on a "spurious" and "deceptive craft" that was already worm-eaten and destined to strike the rocks. This situation reflects the broader danger where humans choose to follow the bent of their own minds rather than consulting the will of their Creator.
The Root of the Problem
The difficulty stemmed from several spiritual and mental failures:
Lack of Knowledge: A deficiency in spiritual knowledge made it impossible to discern between the holy and that which is appointed to utter ruin.
Perverted Imagination: When the imagination is allowed to run riot without restraint, it leads to a diseased state where one lives an unreal life, unfitted for practical duties.
Yielding to Temptation: This man was brought to the same place of failure where he had fallen before, allowing Satan to take possession of his soul through unbelief.
Presumption: Choosing to guide one's own frail bark across life's stormy waters is an act of presumption for which the individual must answer for the results.
Spiritual Insight and the Safety of the Church
True safety is found only in following the light provided by God's delegated servants and the church. The Captain in the vision represents Christ, who has the destiny of His church in His own charge and will never permit the vessel to go down. Those who fail to recognize the difference between the genuine and the spurious are in danger of losing their lives by boarding the wrong boat. As the end of earth's history nears, we must have spiritual eyesight to discern the secret wickedness creeping into our midst and maintain a living connection with God Revelation 14:12.
The Role of the Watchman
God sets watchmen to blow the trumpet and warn the people of coming danger Ezekiel 33:7. If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not give the warning, the blood of those who perish is required at his hand Ezekiel 33:6. The visions and testimonies are given as a special mercy to point out these dangers and guide souls back to the safe path. We must be willing to sacrifice our own wisdom and receive the kingdom of heaven with the humility of a little child.
