The sequence of events for all sinners following the 1,000 years begins with their physical resurrection and concludes with the final execution of judgment in the lake of fire. 🌿
The Second Resurrection
At the close of the one thousand years, Christ returns to the earth a third time, standing upon the Mount of Olives. At His call, all the wicked dead who have ever lived are raised from the dust of the earth in what is known as the second resurrection. Unlike the righteous who came forth in immortal bloom at the first resurrection, these individuals arise with the same feeble, sickly bodies and marks of the curse they bore when they went into the grave. This vast host, covering the breadth of the earth, includes everyone from the antediluvian giants to those who mocked and crucified the Savior.
The Release and Deception of Satan
Once the wicked are restored to life, Satan is loosed from his prison because he again has subjects upon whom he can exercise his ingenuity. He immediately goes out to deceive these nations, gathered from the four corners of the earth, to marshal them for one final battle. He convinces this countless host—referred to as Gog and Magog—that they can overcome the City of God.
The Final Assault and Judgment
Under Satan's leadership, the resurrected wicked surround the New Jerusalem, which has descended from heaven to rest upon a great plain. At this moment, the Great White Throne appears, and all the dead, small and great, stand before God to be judged out of the books according to their works Revelation 20:11-12. Every knee is compelled to bow, and every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord Romans 14:10-11. The Book of Life is opened to demonstrate that God has acted with perfect justice and that the names of the lost were not retained because of their own choices.
The Second Death and Earth's Renewal
The sequence concludes with the execution of the final sentence:
Destruction by Fire: Fire comes down from God out of heaven and devours the entire wicked host, including Satan, the "root," and his followers, the "branches" Malachi 4:1.
The Second Death: This is the second death, a final and utter perdition from which there is no hope of a future resurrection Revelation 20:14-15.
Purification: This same fire melts the earth and the elements with fervent heat, purifying the territory from every trace of sin and the curse.
A New Creation: Once the fire has completed its work, God creates a new heaven and a new earth where the righteous will dwell in eternal peace Revelation 21:1.
"For, behold, the day comes, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yes, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch" Malachi 4:1.
