How to have Jesus in the heart?

To have Jesus in your heart, you must exercise a living faith by which you personally appropriate His presence and yield your entire life to His control. This is not a mere theory but a practical experience where self is subdued and Christ becomes the ruling power of the soul.

The Path to His Indwelling Presence 🌟

  • Emptying of Self: Christ can only abide in the soul when the whole heart is given up to Him, and it must be emptied of self-esteem, self-love, and pride. The heart that is proud of its "wholeness" feels no need for a personal union with the Savior.

  • Simple Faith and Belief: You must believe God's word implicitly and accept His promises before you fully understand them. Jesus dwells in your heart by faith when you consider what He is to you and the work He has wrought in the plan of redemption Ephesians 3:17.

  • Hiding the Word in the Heart: Christ is in His word; therefore, those who make the Bible a constant companion and yield to its influence will have Christ dwelling within. When His words take possession of us, He becomes an abiding presence that controls our thoughts and actions John 15:7.

  • The Agency of the Holy Spirit: The presence of the Holy Spirit is the actual presence of Christ in the soul. This experience is made possible by the outpouring of the Spirit, which represents Christ's actual life working within the believer.

Living the Indwelling Life 🕊️

  • Constant Meditation: By contemplating Christ’s great love and His infinite sacrifice, your heart is filled with holy joy and a sense of His abiding presence Psalms 104:34. Meditation leads to sweet communion where you feel "at home" with Jesus.

  • Obedience and Love: If you love Christ, you will keep His words, and both the Father and the Son will make their abode with you John 14:23. This is not a legalistic burden but a joy that springs up naturally like a wellspring of water.

  • Harmony in the Home: When Christ dwells in the hearts of family members, there is unity, kindness, and forbearance. The Spirit of Christ quells tumultuous passions and brings a heavenly atmosphere into the household.

The Results of His Presence ✨

  • Transformation of Character: The indwelling of Christ is the death blow to self-love and results in a well-ordered life characterized by meekness, kindness, and purity. You become a "new creature," and the life of Jesus is manifested in your mortal flesh 2 Corinthians 5:17.

  • A Source of Joy: Life with Christ is not one of sadness and gloom; rather, His presence is a wellspring of joy and the very keynote of rejoicing. Even in trials, the sense of His companionship brings peace that is like a river.

  • A Light to the World: It is impossible to conceal the light of His presence; if He is in the heart, His light will shine out through your words and actions to win others to Him Matthew 5:14-16. You become a "living letter" from Jesus to those around you 2 Corinthians 3:2-3.

True religion is Christ dwelling in the heart by faith, living His life and working His works through the human agent. May you surrender your heart to Him this moment and experience the riches of His glory Ephesians 3:16.
