The Holy Spirit: Person and Divine Functions
Is the Holy Spirit a separate person within the Godhead?
Is the Holy Spirit the breath of father and son and also a separate person?

Indeed, the Holy Spirit is revealed as a distinct person of the Godhead, and is often referred to as the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ, serving as the divine afflatus and medium of their power, and representing both the Father and the Son. This is clearly affirmed through various biblical passages and theological understandings.
The Holy Spirit as a Distinct Person
The Holy Spirit is one of the three living persons of the heavenly trio. This profound truth is essential for comprehending God's plan of redemption. When individuals receive Christ through living faith, they are baptized in the name of these three powers: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These divine powers then cooperate with obedient believers in their journey to live a new life in Christ.
The Holy Spirit is referred to as the "third person of the Godhead" and possesses a distinct personality. This distinct nature is crucial for understanding the Holy Spirit's role in the divine plan. The Holy Spirit is the highest gift that Christ could solicit from His Father for the exaltation of His people.
The Holy Spirit's Divine Functions
The Holy Spirit serves as a regenerating agent. Without the Spirit, the sacrifice of Christ would be in vain. The power of evil has grown for centuries, and humanity's submission to Satanic captivity is astonishing. Sin can only be resisted and overcome through the mighty agency of the Holy Spirit, who comes with full divine power. It is the Spirit who makes effective what the world's Redeemer has accomplished, and it is through the Spirit that the heart is made pure. Through the Spirit, believers become partakers of the divine nature, empowered to overcome inherited and cultivated tendencies to evil, and to have Christ's character impressed upon them.
The Holy Spirit reveals God's working on the human heart. When the Holy Spirit operates on the mind, individuals can understand Christ's statement, "He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you." John 16:7 Subjection to God's Word means self-restoration. Allowing Christ to work through His Holy Spirit awakens individuals as if from the dead, carrying their minds along with His and employing their faculties. God created every human capability so that His name might be honored and glorified. When individuals consecrate themselves to God, those around them will see that their energies are divinely inspired, and their noblest powers are called into service for God. Faculties once used for selfish purposes or unworthy principles are brought into captivity to Jesus Christ and become one with God's will.
Unity and Cooperation within the Godhead
While distinct, the persons of the Godhead—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—are united in purpose and action. This perfect union is not a triumvirate of men or angels, and they are not subject to human limitations. The Son is one with the Father in heaven, as declared in John 17:23.
The Holy Spirit reveals the Father through the Son, and the Son's own revelation is borne witness to by the Holy Spirit. This coming of the Comforter fulfills Jesus' promise, "I come unto you," and concretely expounds the spiritual unity between the Father, the Son, and the believing disciple: "At that day you shall know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you." John 14:20 This spiritual union is the very essence of Christianity, made possible by the Holy Spirit, who now manifests as the Spirit of the God-man, in whom divinity and humanity are united.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, and His presence is everywhere. Psalm 139:7 This divine presence fills the world and is an unfailing refuge for all who seek it.
