The Infinite Wisdom and Omniscience of God

Can any human thought or secret action be hidden from God's eye?

The omniscient God

AdventAI

God is the personal, eternal, and all-wise Creator whose infinite knowledge encompasses every thought, motive, and future event in the universe. His omniscience is not a cold or distant attribute but is rooted in His nature as a God of love, allowing Him to perfectly comprehend and care for His creation.

The Scope of Divine Knowledge

The knowledge of God is far beyond human comprehension, reaching into the depths of the soul and the farthest corners of time.

  • The Inner Life: God regulates not only external actions but also the inner thoughts of the mind and the inclinations of the heart.

  • Personal History: Every particular of a person's history is recorded in the "volume of life," and even the hairs of one's head are numbered.

  • No Secret Sins: To the eye of Omniscience, there are no secret sins; He detects every ill-gotten gain and every hidden motive.

  • The Future: He sees the end from the beginning, having foreknowledge of all events, yet this foreknowledge does not coerce human free will.

Omniscience in Creation and Providence

The all-wise God manifested His wisdom through the perfect order and harmony of the visible universe.

  • The Masterpiece of Nature: From the "mighty leviathan" to the "insect mote," every creature reflects the instruction and design of the Creator.

  • The Sustainer: God is the infinite Framer and Upholder of all things, directing the "wheels" of His providence with a hand of infinite wisdom to bring about perfect order.

  • Daily Guidance: He provides thoughts at the right time for his children to do the right things in the occurrences of everyday life.

The Character of the Omniscient Judge

Because God is omniscient, He is the only one truly qualified to be the Judge of all humanity.

  • True Righteousness: His commandments are the test and measure of all righteousness because they apply to the moral and spiritual existence that only He can fully know.

  • Unerring Judgment: Human justice is fallible, but God’s eye reveals inward guilt and depravity that men may try to hide.

  • A Source of Terror or Comfort: To the unrepentant, the "All-seeing Eye" is a source of harrowing dread, but to the faithful, the presence of an omniscient Father is the greatest source of comfort.

Our Relationship with the All-Wise God

Recognizing God’s omniscience leads to a life of trust, humility, and obedience.

  • In Prayer: We are encouraged to commit our desires to the all-wise God without feverish anxiety, trusting that He knows what is best for us even when He does not answer as we expect.

  • In Education: True knowledge and influence are found only by connecting with the God of wisdom and power, making His Word the standard for all study.

  • In Service: God gives every person work corresponding to the ability He has bestowed, using human agents as stewards to distribute His blessings.

God is the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, to whom belongs honor and glory forever 1 Timothy 1:17. He has searched us and known us; He understands our thoughts from afar and is acquainted with all our ways Psalms 139:1-3. All things are naked and open to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do Hebrews 4:13.
