From Orchard Regret to the Mystery of Eternal Growth

Why would a world without sickness still need leaves for healing?

AdventAI

I was too hasty and cut a giant branch off a 50+ year old avocado Tree that was the perfect branch to climb up and have a Birds Eye over view of my entire orchard / property and I now thoroughly regret it

AdventAI

It is completely natural to feel regret when a hasty decision impacts a cherished part of nature, but you can find peace by turning this experience into a spiritual lesson. While that specific branch is gone, you can view this moment as an opportunity for heart-felt repentance and a deeper commitment to being a faithful steward of the garden God has entrusted to you.

Understanding the Value of Your Trees

Your orchard is more than just a collection of plants; it is a lesson book from which you can learn of spiritual things. Trees are precious gifts that provide health-giving properties and beauty to our surroundings.

  • A Sacred Trust: God gave the first humans the task of dressing and keeping the garden, and he views useful labor in nature as a safeguard for the soul.

  • Witnesses of Growth: Just as the "great stone" was set under an oak as a witness, your trees stand as witnesses to your care and your relationship with the Creator Joshua 24:26-27.

  • Lessons in Development: The way a tree is pruned or "bent" influences its future, reminding us that our daily choices shape our character.

Turning Regret into Growth

While you may feel like you have "ruthlessly cut down" something of value, there is a path forward through grace and renewed diligence.

  • True Repentance: Genuine repentance involves more than just a feeling of remorse; it is a turning toward right principles and seeking the Lord's strength to overcome natural inclinations.

  • The Power of Restoration: Even when nature is marred by our mistakes or the general curse on the earth, the sick and weary can still find health and gladness in the orchard.

  • Patient Cultivation: Like the dresser of the vineyard who pleaded for a fruitless tree to be given another year of care, the Lord is patient with us as we learn to bear fruit meet for repentance Luke 13:8-9.

Moving Forward in Your Orchard

Instead of dwelling on the lost branch, you can focus on the "inner work" of the heart and the future potential of your land.

  • Planting for the Future: If a property lacks what is needed, new trees can be set out to eventually provide the shade and beauty you desire.

  • Sharing the Blessings: Use your orchard to point others to the love of God, just as the palm tree in the desert points weary souls to living water.

  • Anticipating the New Earth: We look forward to a time when we will plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them without the sting of regret or decay Isaiah 65:21-22.

May you find comfort in the fact that every good tree is known by its fruits, and your desire to do right is a sign of a heart that seeks to be a "tree of righteousness" Isaiah 61:3. Be encouraged to continue your work with fresh zeal, knowing that God waters the seeds you plant and causes them to grow.

If in the new world we will be planting vineyards & we will still plant things and they will grow but there will be no decay… this seems impossible to have growth without decay

AdventAI

While the concept of growth without decay may seem impossible by the laws of our current world, the new earth will operate under a different, divine economy where life is sustained eternally by the power of God. In the restored earth, the entire cycle of nature is liberated from the bondage of sin and the curse that currently necessitates death and decomposition.

The Source of Eternal Vitality

Growth in the new earth is not fueled by the breakdown of old matter, but by the direct, life-giving presence of the Creator and the Lamb Revelation 22:1.

  • The Tree of Life: In the midst of the city stands the tree of life, yielding its fruit every month and providing leaves for the healing of the nations Revelation 22:2. This tree represents the perpetual life man will have in Christ, ensuring that every character remains perfected without ever being susceptible to the power of evil or decay.

  • A World Without the Curse: The very reason for decay—the curse resulting from sin—will be entirely removed Revelation 22:3. Without the "blight and mildew of sin," the environment will reflect the original perfection of Eden, where growth was a continuous expansion of beauty rather than a cycle of survival.

  • Divine Power as Sustenance: Just as God currently uses His word to enshrine life into a seed and cause it to manifest mighty growth, in the new earth, that power will be undimmed and uninterrupted.

Productivity and Eternal Rest

In the new world, inhabitants will indeed engage in meaningful, productive labor such as building houses and planting vineyards, but this work will be free from the exhaustion and frustration of the present age Isaiah 65:21.

  • Joyful Labor: The occupation of the redeemed will include gardening and the study of the universe, where every opening bud will be seen as an expression of God's love without the fear of it ever withering.

  • Perpetual Refreshment: The Sabbath will continue to be observed in the new earth, serving as a day of worship and a reminder of the perfect rest that comes from triumphing in God's works rather than our own efforts.

  • No Loss of Life: The promise is clear that there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, meaning the "wages of sin," which is death and decay, can never enter that realm.

A Transformed Reality

We must distinguish between the "world that now is" and the "world to come," as the latter is a literal reality that follows the renovation of the earth by fire.

  • Continuity of Identity: Although the saints will be immortal and material, they are still described as "flesh" in the kingdom, showing that it is a tangible, real world where growth occurs but is never overtaken by destruction Isaiah 66:23.

  • The End of Affliction: The Lord has pledged His word that affliction, including the decay of life, shall not rise up a second time Nahum 1:9.

  • Eternal Progression: Character and knowledge will continue to develop through the "infinity beyond," allowing for a growth in our understanding of God's character that never reaches a limit or faces decline.

The new earth will be a place where the loves and sympathies God planted in the soul find their truest exercise in a social life that is harmonious and everlasting. It will be a state where the whole earth is full of His glory, and the memory of the former things, including the "pall of death," will not even come into mind Isaiah 65:17.

If in the new world there is no death nor decay because the curse of sin is not there and people will labour joyfully without frustration or pain… then what is the need for the leafs and fruit of the tree of life to give healing? Seems pointless/redundant. Also if There is no decay… then what happens to an uneaten fruit / fruit of life.. it just sits there in perfect ripeness forever? It seems impossible to have a meaningful and sufficient world that has growth without decay… because then the world would be over crowded and things would grow and take up space, but never perish or die, leaving no space for new things to grow and all the space would be forever taken without death or decay. It interrupts to cycle of life?

AdventAI

The tree of life and its healing leaves serve a glorious, restorative purpose that goes beyond simply curing disease, and the absence of decay in the new earth does not create overcrowding, but rather a perfect, eternal expansion of life. In the restored Eden, the redeemed will grow and reflect the perfect image of their Lord in mind, soul, and body.

The True Purpose of Healing Leaves

The "healing" provided by the leaves is not for sickness as we understand it now, because in that land there is no more pain, sorrow, or death. Instead, the leaves and fruit represent the sustaining power that perpetuates immortality and provides spiritual vigor.

  • Sustaining Immortality: Man is dependent upon the tree of life for immortality, and in order to possess an endless existence, the redeemed must continue to partake of it.

  • Healing from the Scars of Sin: The leaves are for the "service" or "restoration" of the nations, helping the redeemed "grow up" to the full stature of the race in its primeval glory.

  • A Source of Knowledge: The tree of life is a source of wisdom and knowledge that helps the mind expand and the soul reflect the beauty of God.

  • Spiritual Refreshment: Partaking of these things is like receiving the Word of God, which strengthens the spiritual "muscle" and "sinew" of the soul.

Growth and the Absence of Decay

While it is difficult to imagine a world where fruit does not rot, the new earth is governed by the life-giving power of the Creator rather than the laws of decomposition.

  • Eternal Freshness: The fruit of the tree of life is the antidote to death and possesses supernatural virtue to sustain life forever.

  • Continual Supply: The tree yields its fruit every month, and the supply is inexhaustible; even when partaken of, there is always just as much left.

  • No "Waste" or Overcrowding: In a world where God creates "new heavens and a new earth," the constraints of space and resources are managed by His infinite power 2 Peter 3:13.

  • Never-Fading Beauty: The flowers plucked in that land never fade, and the grass waves in a living green that reflects silver and gold, showing that life remains in its peak state without ever reaching a point of decline.

A Higher Cycle of Life

The "cycle of life" we see today—birth, growth, decay, and death—is actually a result of the curse of sin and was not part of the original plan. The new earth restores a different cycle: one of eternal progression and joy.

  • Reflecting the Perfect Image: The redeemed will appear in the beauty of the Lord, growing in mind and soul through unending ages.

  • Harmonious Productivity: Inhabitants will build houses and plant vineyards, enjoying the work of their hands without the frustration of thorns, briers, or the "pall of death" Isaiah 65:21-22.

  • Endless Discovery: Every opening bud and every stream clear as crystal will be a subject of study and praise, as the saved travel from sinless world to sinless world to behold the works of God.

  • A Limitless Territory: The kingdom and dominion under the whole heaven will be given to the saints, providing an eternal weight of glory that far exceeds the small trials of this current world Daniel 7:27.

In this better land, you will not have to worry about space or decay, for the Lord who made the stars for multitude has made every provision for your happiness and the perpetuation of life Deuteronomy 10:22. Obedience to God's commandments through the grace of Christ is the condition that gives us the right to this tree and entrance into the city where life measures with the life of God.
