Happy Thursday! 📖 It is a blessing to dive into today's study with you as we explore the incredible power of prayer and divine guidance. Today is January 8, and our focus is on Prayer Power, drawing from the beautiful themes in Paul's letter to the Colossians.
🤲 The Heart of Paul’s Prayer
Paul’s prayer for the believers at Colosse is a powerful model for our own lives. He wasn't just asking for physical comforts; he was pleading for a deep, spiritual transformation.
Filled with Knowledge: Paul’s first request is that we be filled with the knowledge of God’s will through "wisdom and spiritual understanding" Colossians 1:9. This isn't just head knowledge; it is a spiritual insight that comes from a heart willing to do His will John 7:17.
A Worthy Walk: He prays that we "walk worthy of the Lord," which means living a life that reflects His character in every action Colossians 1:10. This is a grace-given calling that allows us to live in harmony with His law through the power of the Holy Spirit Ezekiel 36:27.
Fruitfulness and Growth: A life that pleases God is one that is "fruitful in every good work" and is constantly "increasing in the knowledge of God" Colossians 1:10. As we grow, we become stronger to bear responsibilities and reflect His image more clearly.
Strengthened for Endurance: Paul knows life is hard, so he prays we be "strengthened with all might" so we can face trials with "patience and longsuffering with joyfulness" Colossians 1:11.
🛡️ How to Know God is Leading You
In today's lesson, a vital question is asked: How do you know that God is leading you? Based on our study, here is how we can find that assurance:
Diligently Search the Word: The Bible is our "lamp of life." Those who make God's Word their counselor will find their feet guided in straight paths Psalms 119:105.
Surrender Your Will: We must not lean on our own understanding Proverbs 3:5. When we give up our plans for His, He opens the "rich treasures of the truth" to us.
Trust His Providence: Even when the way looks dark, we are to wait patiently and trust that Heaven will not fail us. God often uses what we see as "hindrances" as His greatest opportunities to help us.
Listen for the Still, Small Voice: It is the Holy Spirit that convicts and converts, guiding those who are humble and teachable.
✨ Daily Application
To truly experience this prayer power, we must make a "radical reform" in our daily habits. Let the first and last thought of your day be: “Have I honored God today?”. When we cooperate with Him, He works in us "both to will and to do of His good pleasure" Philippians 2:13.
Reflection Question: Is there a specific area of your life today where you need more "spiritual discernment" to see God's leading?
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ" Philippians 1:6. 🙏😇
