What is the wine of Babylon

AdventAI

The wine of Babylon is the intoxicating cup of false doctrines and erroneous teachings that spiritual Babylon uses to deceive and manipulate all the nations of the earth Revelation 14:8. This "wine" represents a departure from the plain truths of the Word of God in favor of human traditions and Satanic sophistry.

The Components of the Wine

The wine of Babylon is not a single error, but a mixture of several poisonous doctrines that cloud the spiritual judgment of humanity. These include:

  • The False Sabbath: The exalting of the first day of the week above the holy, sanctified seventh-day Sabbath of the fourth commandment.

  • The Immortality of the Soul: The repeating of the original lie told in Eden—that humans possess natural immortality Genesis 3:4.

  • Eternal Torment: The unscriptural theory of the eternal conscious suffering of the wicked.

  • The Denial of Christ's Pre-existence: Erroneous teachings regarding the nature of the Saviour before His birth in Bethlehem.

  • Union of Church and State: The illicit connection between religious organizations and the "kings of the earth" to enforce religious decrees through civil power Revelation 17:2.

The Effects of the Wine

Just as physical alcohol benumbs the senses, the spiritual wine of Babylon has a devastating effect on the human mind and character.

  • Spiritual Insensitivity: It prevents individuals from discerning truth from error and right from wrong.

  • Confusion and Dissension: It creates a discordant religious landscape where people know not what to believe as truth.

  • Intolerance and Aggression: The "wrath" associated with this wine leads those who drink it to become aggressive toward anyone who does not harmonize with these false heresies.

  • Manipulation: False teachings allow spurious religious leaders to secure the support of the masses to achieve the goal of dominating humankind.

The Call to Sobriety

The only remedy for this spiritual intoxication is to reject the poisonous cup of Babylon and instead drink from the cup of the truths of redemption. God calls His people to be established in Bible truth so they can distinguish between the sacred and the profaneEze 22:26. When one accepts the plain, cutting truths of the Word of God, the mind is brought into captivity to the will of Christ and the character is transformed 2 Corinthians 10:5.

God's final message is a merciful warning to turn away from these "commandments of men" and return to the worship of the Creator by keeping His commandments and the faith of Jesus Revelation 14:12. This involves a total separation from the systems of error, as commanded by the voice from heaven: "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues" Revelation 18:4.
