WHY I AM A VEGETARIAN.

DAVID PAULSON, M. D.
I AM a vegetarian, first, because I do not believe it is right to slaughter an animal simply to tickle my palate, when I am acquainted with many pure foods that contain the same elements of nourishment in a much more desirable form.
Secondly, because I have seen the most beautiful animals slaughtered by the State live stock commissioners, and found different parts of the body virtually reeking inside with tubercular growths and puss abscesses, and know full well from reliable sources that a large per cent of the cattle are at present similarly affected.
Thirdly, and most important of all, I am anxious to cultivate such a taste here below that when I have the blessed opportunity of passing into that better world, where blood-stained slaughter-houses can not be found, I shall feel fully in harmony with that arrangement.
