The Bible Repository

The Bible Repository.—This is the title of a monthly magazine published by Eld. Rufus Wendell, Salem, Mass. Its terms are $1.00 per year. It is devoted principally to the discussion of the nature and destiny of man. Its editor holds to the non-resurrection of the wicked, as he intimates from time to time. With this sentiment we do not agree. But with the principal teachings of the Repository we are in harmony. That men must seek immortality, or finally cease to live, seems to us one of the clearest truths of revelation. But we think that wicked men are exposed to the sentence of death at the judgment, and to its certain execution unless they do now turn from their sins. If we rightly understand Bro. Wendell, he thinks the sentence of the judgment to be that they “remain under the power of death. Hitherto the Repository has not entered into the reasons of this position to any extent, but has devoted itself principally to the fact that man has not immortality in his nature. The Repository shows that several distinguished Methodist ministers are taking their stand against the doctrine of natural immortality. This magazine is conducted with ability and candor, and is almost faultless in mechanical execution. We commend to Bro. Wendell’s notice the work of Bro. Waggoner, now going through the press, entitled, “A Vindication of the Doctrine of the Resurrection of the Unjust.”
