A boy of eleven years asked me for a ride. After inquiring whether I preached in my neighborhood, said he, “I am going to be a minister; and I’m going to college, too.” I asked him what doctrine he intended to preach; whether the Methodist, the Presbyterian, the Baptist, or the Universalist. He did not know. But said he, “Mr. A— gets a thousand dollars a year, and I think that is pretty big pay.” How many older than he have a call to the ministry, the strength of which is in the salary?
