SIGN THE PLEDGE.

Come, sign the grand old pledge, my friends, Throw down the poisonous cup; And from the cool and sparkling fount "Fill every beaker up," Till saddened hearts all o'er the land Shall fill with joy again, And thankful lips shall sound the cry, "God bless the temperance man."
Come, sign the pledge, the grand old pledge, Ye humble, high, and low, Throw down the filthy pipe, and let The vile narcotic go. Yes, let it go—the noxious weed; The poisonous, deadly bane; It gives such foul, unsavory breath, And stupefies the brain.
While coffee hot and bitter tea With trembling hand is quaffed, The bubbling spring of nature yields A luscious, cooling draught. "Why do you spend your gold for naught?" Well hath the prophet said, "For that which satisfieth not, And that which is not bread."
