Languages of the World.
By Uriah Smith
THE following item we clip from the American Messenger:— “Recent calculations show that of the principal European languages, English is spoken by 90,000,000 in all parts of the world; German by 55,000,000; Spanish by 51,000,000; and French by 45,000,000.”
Something is done in the way of providing reading matter on the present truth for the 90,000,000 of English speaking people. And a little beginning is made for the 55,000,000 of Germans, and the 45,000,000 of Frenchmen. But what shall be done for the 51,000,000 of Spaniards? We have received a tract from California, on the Plan of Salvation, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, the first we have ever seen written and printed in Spanish in behalf of present truth. This shows that the interest felt by some for this people is beginning to take practical shape. U. S.
