Roman Catholics as Educators.

THE following pointed queries should be well considered by that class of politicians who have shown a willingness to comply with the demands of that church for a division of the public school funds for its benefit.
“When the Church of Rome objects to the education given in our common schools, and demands public money to carry on education in its own way, surely it is fair to ask it to show where or when education under the control of that church has procured better results. Is it in Spain, where the people are aimlessly and hopelessly cutting each other’s throats, and where anything like stable government appears to be impossible? Is it in Mexico, where brigandage, pronunciamentos, and massacres of Protestants are the order of the day? In both of these countries the Church has controlled education for centuries. Is it in Italy, or Austria, or South America that such results are found as would warrant sensible men in complying with the demand of the Church of Rome for public money to support its schools?”—New York Witness.
