Law and Justice

THE Iowa Supreme Court has decided that the prohibitory amendment to the Constitution, adopted by a large popular majority last June, is invalid, and that the next Legislature cannot correct the mistakes of its predecessor. Notwithstanding the fact that four out of five judges concurred in this opinion, which no doubt is correct legally, that does not seem to us to be a just judgment which contravenes the expressed will of the best people in the State, simply because a clerk was careless in transcribing. There is often a great deal of difference between law and justice.
