S. W. RANDALL. The word translated charity in 1 Cor. 13:13, is in the Greek Testament, agape. This word is defined by Greenfield to mean love, plural, love feasts. He gives no other words in the definition. Liddell and Scott say, “Love, brotherly love.” Robinson says, “Love;” and he adds that this word is peculiar to the New Testament, not being used by Greek writers. It is the only noun translated “love” in the New Testament. It is the only word translated charity. It is eighty-six times translated love, and twenty-eight times charity.
